Esophageal Achalasia



Abstract
Esophageal achalasia is a well known but little understood disease to both physician and surgeon since its first description by Thomas Willis in 1674.
Esophageal achalasia occurs at any age and equal frequency in both sexes.
The causes of the disease are unknown although many agree that the disease has a neurogenic basis and supported by pathologic evidence of degeneration or lack of ganglion cells in the esophagus.
Various methods of treatment employed, but settled most popularly by Zaaiieras `modified Heller¢¥s operation¢¥.
We, recently, experienced a case and reported here with review of the Iiterature.
